When I was young I wanted to be Marianne Faithfull (before she lived on the wall and did heroin and broke out her front teeth). I wanted to be her. I thought she looked so cool.

I first saw her sing on Shindig, and she just stood in a striped knit dress (as I remember) with her arms folded across her stomach and sang "As Tears Go By" which Mick and Keith wrote for her. I was into everything British at that time, and I thought it couldn't get any cooler than that. I learned this song on my guitar (I still do it in my shows) and already had my hair cut like this photo (I still do). I still think this is all so cool.
