EXT. WETLAND. SUNSET
SUZY, an unbelieveably beautiful woman who looks barely out of her
twenties with a very high IQ and exceptional insight and dressed
impeccably well, walks quietly along a tarred gravel road. She
glances occasionally toward the swamp to her left and then walks on.
A DUCK preens himself on a log, looking bored and superior.
Suzy steps up on the burned, charred mound of dirt with brush piled
up half-burned and sawed off trees, signaling a major commotion in the
recent past, and surveys all around her - the pond and wetlands.
Quiet water.
SUZY
Quack quack
A horse erupts in a trumpeting whinny through the woods.
SUZY
Quack quack quack quack
FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER
A duck appears casually swimming through the fallen logs on the far
side of the pond.
SUZY
(excitedly)
Quack quack quack quack
The horse whinnies again.
The duck slowly makes his way upon a large log in the middle of the
pond and sits preening himself some more.
SUZY
Quack quack quack quack
The duck casually glances her way and then dips his bill into the
water, admiring his reflection.
Suzy takes out two hamburger buns from a container and holds them up.
The duck looks mildly interested (almost like he needs glasses).
SUZY
Quack quack quack.
The horse whinnies again.
She tears the bread up and drops it with much to do into the water.
(with large motions).
The duck gazes across the pond at her as though he's trying to
recall... something.
Suzy then takes a small container of whole kernal corn and holds it up
for all to see.
SUZY
Quack quack quack
The horse whinnies again as though someone has mumbled "Frau Blucher."
Suzy generously pours grain across the ground by the water.
The duck springs into the water and begins swimming toward Suzy.
SUZY
Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack...
Then the duck turns slightly and makes a circle eventually with a shake
of his tail feathers, turning all the way back around the other end of
the log and disappears.
Suzy's shoulders droop.
She turns to walk back up the road.
A few yards later she pauses then turns back and sneaks quietly back to
the pond, hiding in the brush.
No duck.
She stands in full view and then:
There is a great flapping of wings and the duck flies at low level as
if in slow motion across the pond landing right in front of her with
his feet extended and sort of skiing to a halt. With a wake!
SUZY
Oh! That is splendid! Quack quack quack
The horse whinnies yet again.
The duck turns and swims away disappearing in the fading light.
Suzy leaves the food on the ground and with a familiar shrug heads back
down the road.
