May 28, 2006 - Pig and Snake
So tonight I went to feed the animals. I waved to the duck on the way to the barn, and he knew I would be back with corn. Annie, the horse, and Peg, the pig, were already in the barn. Annie whinnied and Peg oinked, and then I heard a scrape which told me that the pig had gone under a low part in Annie's stall and entered the main part of the barn. I took the board off the front of the doors and opened them. I squinted in the darkness as the blinding sunlight poured in. There right at my feet to the right was Peg, and there to my left on the floor of the barn right beside Peg was a large black snake. I slammed the doors! Peg immediately started oinking and sniffing around the cracks in the boards. I'm sure she was wondering what was wrong with me now. My mind was racing. I remembered that pigs aren't supposed to like snakes, so I opened the doors again and they were both still there. I pointed to the snake. "Look, Peg, a snake!" She looked at it and looked back at me. I also remembered that pigs have poor eyesight but a very good sense of smell, but she was like, "So what?" So I slammed the barn doors again. Peg tried to open them with her nose, but I held them closed. Then I heard another scrape and knew that she had gone back into the stall. I opened the doors again, and the snake slowly slid under and into the stall on the other side. I flung open the feed bin and fed Peg and then Annie, got my corn for Oranse Lamont, and left. The barn is a portal to the animal kingdom!!!!!! So far a duck, a pig, and now a snake have appeared there. Well, also some rats and mice and possums and raccoons. I think it's time for a swan. This never happened until I read that book about Marie Laveau.
