Aug 14, 2005 - The Red Stick Ramblers

The Red Stick Ramblers played at the Thirsty Hippo last night. I love this band. They started off sweet and slow and continued on into the night until everyone was in a sweaty pile-up of dancers (and everyone grinnin'). They have such a good vibe. I recommend if you ever can see them, then do! It's south Louisiana Cajun gypsy swing music, sometimes sung in French with twin fiddles, an excellent guitarist, and one of the best rhythm sections I've heard. They're cute too!

We met Randi and Justin and Tara and Scott there and were soon joined by Laura and her new boyfriends, and we all danced and danced and danced. The club filled up and spilled out into the patio as the air conditioner struggled in vain with the doors open. No one cared that we all looked like we'd been caught in a rain storm. This is magic, feel-good bar music, sometimes sad and sometimes almost impossibly happy.

If you're feeling sort of concrete wall gray and need a makeover, then I would say you should go spend some time with the Red Stick Ramblers.
